PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an anisotropic silicon nitride- based ceramic borous body.;SOLUTION: This method of manufacturing a porous silicon nitride-based ceramic sintered formed body which has good strength and/or breaking energy characteristically comprises heating a green compact of silicon nitride raw material powders, a precursor compact, a preform and a casting form, etc., generating rod-shaped particles of silicon nitride in the green compact without excessive densification, thereafter carrying out one to multiple step of sintering/ forming processes, generating plastic flow at least in one part, controlling direction of crystal grains of each part of the sintered form in a predetermined direction and controlling arbitrarily the density of the sintered form.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
