PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and adequately delete the unreadable data recorded on a recording medium.;SOLUTION: A system controller 9 discriminates whether the number of retry times exceeds a prescribed reference value or not when the generation of an error in an EFM signal is discriminated by the notification received from a digital signal processing circuit 8. When the number of retry times is discriminated to exceed the reference value, the address indicating the sector where the unreadable data is recorded is stored in a defective address memory section 21. The system controller 9 discriminates whether the reinspection of the defective sector is instructed or not when the deletion of the defective sector is instructed by the instruction information inputted from an operation section 10. When the reinspection is instructed, the controller records the signal for inspection in the defective sector, reads the same and discriminates whether the error rises in the EFM signal or not.
