PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a high C(carrier)/N(noise) ratio even if multi-channel communication is conducted.;SOLUTION: An optical transmission system of the invention is featured in that it is equipped with a wavelength multiplexing optical transmitter that comprises a band division unit 3 which divides wavelength multiplexed signals into multiple frequency bands, semiconductor lasers 8 and 9 which converts electric signals of multiple frequency bands to multiple optical signals using a different wavelength for each frequency band, and a frequency synthesizing unit 12 which conducts frequency synthesizing for each optical signal, and a wavelength multiplexing optical receiver that comprises optical-to-electrical conversion units 34 and 35 which restore respectively electric signals of multiple frequency bands, by converting optical signals from the wavelength multiplexing optical transmitter to electric signals, and by dividing the converted electric signals into multiple frequency bands.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
