PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing winding means for winding and arranging a metal wire closely on the outer periphery of a tube at a stable pitch and an external electrode fluorescent lamp with improved light distribution characteristics and a light output in high yields.;SOLUTION: The metal wire winding method for winding the metal wire 10 fed out of a metal wire nozzle 9, while being rotated along a tube axis, on the outer periphery of the tube 1 fixedly at a predetermined pitch to the direction of the tube axis, comprises setting the major diameter of the tube 1 as D, the winding torque of the metal wire 10 as 0.8-0.16 kgf, the winding speed as 30 to 60 prm, and the location of the end of the winding nozzle on the outer periphery of the tube as +D/2 to -D from the tube axis as a center in horizontal direction and +D/2 to D from the tube axis as the center in vertical direction.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
