Low phase-noise integrated voltage controlled oscillator

A circuit and method are shown for minimizing a phase noise of an amplifier circuit in an oscillator circuit. A pair of cross-coupled transistors in the amplifier circuit actively amplify a signal from a resonator circuit of the oscillator circuit. In order to reduce the phase noise of the oscillator circuit, an impedance matching element is connected between each transistor and the resonator circuit. Each impedance matching element may take the form of an inductor that may be tuned to minimize the phase noise of the active amplifier circuit. The inductors need not have a high quality factor.
