A cytochrome P450 14-demethylase enzyme isolated from Mycobacterium tuberculosis designated as MT CYP51. A crystalline form of MT CYP51 is also disclosed. Nucleic acid molecules encoding MT CYP51 are also disclosed. Recombinant host cells, recombinant nucleic acids and recombinant proteins are also disclosed, along with methods of producing each. Isolated and purified antibodies to MT CYP51, and methods of producing the same, are also disclosed. MT CYP51 is characterized as having 14-demethylase biological activity. Thus, therapeutic and drug screening methods pertaining to this activity are also disclosed.
