A method of manufacturing a silver halide photographic emulsion, comprising a process of forming silver halide tabular grains in which 50% or more of a projected area of the total silver halide being accounted for by tabular grains having an aspect ratio of 3 or more and a equivalent-circle diameter of 1.4 m or more, said process comprising a host tabular grain formation step (step a), a step of adding an emulsion which contains slightly soluble silver halide grains (step b), and an outermost shell formation step (step c), a silver amount (CAg) consumed in the (step a) and a silver amount (SAg) consumed in the (step b) and the (step c) being defined by equation (I) below ;where d satisfies 0d0.15 and R represents the equivalent-sphere diameter of a final grain.
