The selective broadcast masking functions described are applicable to a wide variety of communication links, including both slow and fast links, high latency links and links with low and high error rates. The selective transmission masking functions can be implemented individually or in combination with other performance-enhancing features, such as masking the establishment of three-way communication from conventional TCP, local data recognition, multiplexing of multiple connections over a single connection, data compression / encoding, prioritization and trajectory selection.
