The configuration may include one or more, discernible by machine, electrical characteristics, optical characteristics, topographic characteristics or magnetic characteristics. The configuration reading may involve one or more electrical, optical, mechanical or magnetic readings of the machine-discernible configuration provided in the abrasive product. The configuration may include one or more of, signs, reliefs, depressions, holes, voids, variations in color or pigmentation, bar codes, magnetic or periodic transitions. The configuration may include one or more of, indexing information, servo information, alignment information or abrasive product identification information. A closed loop servo control of the abrasive product movement can be performed using the servo / indexing information of the configuration. The abrasive product may consist of a mobile support and an abrasive suspension. The support (30) can be moved in a controlled manner in relation to the article (24) in such a way that the support (30) and the abrasive suspension are in contact with the article (24). The configuration provided on the support can be read after a cleaning operation. An information system can be used to store various types of data derived, in part, from the use of the information contained in the abrasive product configuration. The stored data can be used for numerous purposes such as identification, monitoring, accounting, inventory, handling and statistics (figure 2).
