The present invention relates to a Streptococcus suis polypeptide having N-terminal sequence of amino acids Asp-Ser-Lys-Gln-Asp-Ile-Asn-Gln-Tyr-Phe-Gln-Ser-Leu-Thr-Tyr-Glu, with molecular weight of 54 000 plus, minus 3000, activatible by thiol, inhibitable by cholesterol, exhibiting hemolytic activity in its native form, or a portion of the polypeptide capable to induce an immune response against this polypeptide. In the present invention there is also claimed a vaccine containing the above indicated polypeptide as well as antibodies reacting with said polypeptide.
