The object of the present invention is the use of biodegradable microspheres, releasing a radiosensitizing anticancer agent, to obtain a drug intended for simultaneous, separate or time-divided use in combination with radiotherapy for the treatment of glioblastoma. The use of biodegradable microspheres according to the invention makes it possible to achieve a survival time of patients of at least 90 weeks, maintaining a therapeutically effective concentration in the parenchymal space over time. Used microspheres contain predominantly 5-fluorouracil coated with a copolymer of d, l-lactic acid with glycolic acid. Microspheres are implanted using an interstitial injection after excision of the tumor in the wall of the operating cavity. Radiotherapy focused on the tumor volume is administered at a dose of 60 Gy for about six weeks. The present invention also relates to a method for producing biodegradable microspheres by an emulsion-extraction method, as well as suspensions containing biodegradable microspheres that can be obtained by this method. The international application was published together with an international search report.
