A sustained delivery system of anastrozole was formulated to provide anticancer therapy with biodegradable carrier system. A novel chitosan based anastrozole micropsheres were formulated with single emulsion (w/o) crosslinking method using gluteraldehyde (GA) and tripolyphospahte (TPP) as crooslinking agents. Formulations were characterized for encapsulation efficiency, particle size, surface morphology, swelling capacity, erosion and drug release profile in phosphate buffer pH7.4. The highest correlation coefficients were obtained for Higuchi model, suggesting a diffusion controlled mechanism for formulated microspheres.
