The brake for a roller shutter involves a pane (2) fitted in a window frame (1) and a roller shutter (3) installed in front of the pane. On the reverse side of the frame is a guide rail (4). In this housing (6) in which a shaft (7) is positioned. On this shaft the lamellas are rolled when the shutter is upwardly rolled. The shaft is operated by a draw cord and in the housing is a connecting roller (9). In the lowermost lamella is a brake device (10). The brake comprises an elongated body insertable in a cavity of a lamella or endrail of the roller shutter. A stop near the outer end of the body is displaceable crossways to the longitudinal direction of the body. In the body are spring devices for pressing the stop against the body.
