Computerized medical diagnostic and treatment advice system for evaluating medical problems

Data indicative of the symptoms of a patient over a period of time are transmitted via a communications network to an automated medical advice system and entered as one of a sequence of records into a consultation history database. A match pattern is applied to the consultation history database to evaluate the medical problem of the patient. If a consultation frequency value of matched records located by applying the match pattern satisfies a match threshold a recommendation of advice is generated and communicated through the communications network to the patient or the patient's advisor. The problem data and advice might be communicated on the telephone or as data on a network to a computer terminal.
