THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF CATALYST COMPRISING MIXED OXIDES BASED ON VANADIUM AND ANTIMONY AND OPTIONALLY ON TIN AND/OR ON TITANIUM AND/OR ON IRON AND/OR ON OTHER METALS DEPOSITED ON SUPPORT AND THEIR USE FOR THE AMMOXIDATION OF ALKANES.THE PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF A CATALYST DEFINED ABOVE IS CHARACTERIZED IN THAT IT COMPRISES:- THE IMPREGNATION OF A SOLID SUPPORT OF OXIDE TYPE USING A SOLUTION IN AT LEATS ONE SATURATED ALCOHOL OF RESPECTIVE COMPOUNDS OF VANADIUM, OF ANTIMONY AND OPTIONALLY OF TIN AND/OR OF TITANIUM AND/OR OF IRON AND/OR OF OTHER METALS- BRINGING THE IMPREGNATED SOLID SUPPORT OBTAINED INTO CONTACT WITH AN AQUEOUS BUFFER SOLUTION AT A PH OF FROM 6 TO 8,- THE SEPARATION OF THE SOLID AND THE DRYING THEREOF,- THE CALCINATION OF THE SOLID IN TWO STAGES, FIRST OF ALL AT A TEMPERATURE OF 300 °C TO 350 °C AND THEN AT A TEMPERATURE OF 400 °C TO 800 °C.THESE CATALYST ARE SUITABLE FOR USE IN A FLUIDIZED BED OR IN A TRANSPORTED BED.
