Flashover preventer for electrical transmission line insulators

The device embedded in insulator skirt consists of an induction coil (301), diode (302), capacitors (303) and needle (304). Potential in the transmission line induces a voltage in the coil, and diode rectifies the voltage and applies to the capacitors. Ions leaving towards the needle connected to the capacitor, repels dust and contamination on the surface of insulator thereby prevents flashover. The needle acts as an ion generator and forms and ion corona region. The dust and contaminants while approaching insulator, get charged to same polarity and get repelled.
