A method of preventing growth and replication ofcancer cells that express the core structure of a mucin-typeglycoprotein comprising inducing an anti-cancer cell immuneresponse by administering to a subject a vaccine comprising:(a) a pharmaceutically effective amount of an antigencomprising a purified mucin-type glycoprotein carrying Tn orsialyl-Tn epitope, a purified core structure of a mucin-typeglycoprotein or a chemically synthesized carbohydratecomponent linked to a carrier molecule and which are capableof inducing an immune response against the mucin-typeglycoprotein, and (b) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier,diluent or excipient.
