The invention relates to a heat/cold treatment and to devices used in pain treatment especially of acute tension headache and migraine which is based on the effect of the alternate application from the exterior to arterial and venous vessels of heat and cold for different intervals (seconds or minutes). The treatment dissolves the congestion in the blood vessels, the painful region is supplied with blood and the respective nerve tracts, synapses and conduction fibers are influenced in a pain-relieving manner. To this end, the housing or bands are provided with cooling and heating units/elements and cold/heat is supplied by feeding power or cold or hot water or corresponding coolants (oils) while providing a humid milieu which may contain a medicament.
