The invention concerns a non-magnetic stainless steel with high mechanical properties, corrosion-resistant in physiological media, and capable of being produced at atmospheric pressure, characterised in that its composition in % by weight is as follows: Mn from 15 to 24 %, Cr from 15 to 20 %, Mo from 2.5 to 4 %, N from 0.6 to 0.85 %, V from 0.1 to 0.5 %, C≤0.06 %, Ni≤0.25 %, Sim(F)0.25 %, Ti≤0.020 %, Al≤0.020 %, S≤0.0020 %, B≤0.020 %, Nb+Ta≤0.5 %, Co≤0.5 %, Cu≤0.5 %, and from 0 to 0.5 % in each of the elements Cu, Co and the sum Nb+Ta, the remainder consisting of iron and impurities such that its composition satisfies the following conditions: (I): (% Cr) + 2.5 (% Mo)≤27; (II): (% Cr) + 3.3 (% Mo)≥26; and (III): LOG (% N) + 0.0605 (% N) = 1.3 + [125 (% V) +80 (% Nb) + 52 (% Cr) + 19 (% Mn)] x 10-3 - [4.3 (% Cr)2 + 0.35 (% Mn)?2] x 10-4¿ + 0.17 (% Cr)?3 x 10-5¿.
