Equipment for production of plastic foam components includes a tool (1) with a very dense, crystalline anti-adhesion coating to ease product demoulding. The coating comprises an electroplated chromium based layer and apparatus (2) for both ionising a gas or gas mixture and blowing it into the tool. In a tool manufacturing process: (a) the tool surface is cleaned and polished; (b) a lacquer is applied to areas of the tool to which the anti-adhesion layer is not to be applied; (c) a transition layer of nickel with 1-15% copper is applied in a dipping bath; and (d) an electroplating layer of chromium VI with traces of chromium III, ferrite and zinc is applied in a dipping bath and then rubbed down to a smooth finish. In a foam component moulding process an ionised gas or gas mixture is produced and blown into the mould, the foaming stage is carried out and the component demoulded.
