Pyrolysable compsn. contain organo-boron cpds. consisting of B, H, C or B, H, C and/or N and/or O, and/or S and aromatic hydrocarbons or aromatics-rich hydrocarbon mixts.. Prodn. of carbon, coke, or polyaromatic mesophases (pitch) is also claimed by light phase pyrolysis of the above compsn., so that the pyrolysis prod. contains 0.2 wt.% B.
