The invention relates to power engineering and can be used as a buffer energy storage device, for example for electric transportation systems, emergency power supplies, uninterruptible power supplies for wind-power stations and solar power stations. The inventive device comprises a flywheel and a drive provided with bearing supports which are arranged in vacuum chambers separated from each other and filled with a rarefied gas. Said chambers have a different vacuum level. One chamber which has a lower vacuum level is provided with an electric drive, another chamber which has a higher vacuum level ranging from 0.1 to 0.01 Pa being provided with the flywheel. Said flywheel is provided with a turbomolecular pump which is arranged on the shaft thereof and maintains the higher vacuum by permanent pumping over the gas from said chamber to the chamber provided with the drive. At least one chamber is provided with the drive and the bearing supports. Said chamber or chambers is/are separated from the chamber provided with the flywheel by means of sealing devices whose number corresponds to the number of chambers. Said sealing devices are embodied in such a way that they are hermetical at least at the working frequencies of the flywheel. The invention reduces aerodynamic losses in the chamber provided with the flywheel and ensures efficient cooling without using individual cooling systems.
