The invention relates to a method and a device for the quasi-continuous analysis of inorganic or organic substances contained in various fluids, for example for advantageously monitoring organic contamination in drinking water, surface water and waste water. The aim of the invention is to provide an automatic means of carrying out a monitoring process of this type with a high degree of accuracy in detection. To this end, a predeterminable volume or volume flow of an additional fluid containing one or more reference compounds in a known concentration as (an) internal standard (s) is added to the fluid to be monitored and a specified volume or volume flow of the fluid to be monitored is supplied. A solid phase microextraction with subsequent chromatographic separation and detection of the substances contained is then carried out intermittently.
