The invention relates to a fibre-optic sensor for detecting the influence of pressures and forces. The fibre-optic sensor has been modified in its cross-section. It can be used in a sensing system for monitoring closing edges and/or for monitoring the closure of doors and factory gates. The sensing system comprises an active, self-monitoring fibre-optic pressure-sensing element (10) having means for amplifying bending losses. Said sensing element is integrated into the edge of a door and/or can be or is inserted into a support element (20) surrounding the door. The invention also relates to a method for producing such a sensing system, according to which the fibre or fibres of a sensing element (10) are prepared, notably by material-removing machining. The invention also relates to a method for monitoring the closure of doors by means of such a sensing device produced according to said method. According to the monitoring method a sensing element (10) is integrated into a support element (20) or an elastic threshold element of the door, a signal of the sensing element is generated when pressure is applied to the threshold element, the signal intensity is detected and a threshold value called up, and when the threshold value is exceeded or not reached the closing process is interrupted or reversed.
