The invention relates to a device (M) for measuring the tension of a thread deflected on a stationary deflector (D). An evaluating circuit (6) produces output signals (i) corresponding to the load (K) associated to the thread tension (t), and at least one transducer system (E) is placed in the load transmission path. According to the invention, said transducer system (E) comprises a transparent photoelastic element (S) which is housed in such a way as to be elastically deformable, as well as an optoelectronic scanning system (A) connected to the evaluating circuit (6) for evaluating at least one optical characteristic of the photoelastic element (S) which varies as a function of the load.
