The present invention relates to a gene having a nucleotide sequence in which the α1,2-fucosyltransferase gene derived from Helicobacterpylori has been modified, a process for producing α1,2-fucosyltransferase using the gene, and a process for producing fucose-containing carbohydrates using a microorganism in which the enzyme has been expressed. According to the present invention, fucose-containing carbohydrates can be produced at a low cost and in large quantities by allowing a microorganism capable of producing GTP from a GTP precursor, a microorganism capable of producing GDP-fucose from a sugar and GTP, and an acceptor carbohydrate to be in contact in an aqueous medium.
