EXTRACTION AND PURIFICATION METHOD OF BERBERINE

PURPOSE: Provided is an extraction and purification method of berberine which prepares high quality of berberine easily and in low cost. The berberine is used as stomachic and tonic and has antibacterial activity against microorganism and bacteria. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of: heat extracting active ingredients from Coptisjaponica, Hydrastis canadensis and adding water to collect the water soluble ingredients; running chromatography through such columns including Diaion HP-20 and cellulose column, eluting with methanol and Sephadex G-10, eluting with 0.05-0.55% NaCl solution; freeze drying to get the powder; and crystallizing at 4deg.C in methanol by leaving it in a cold room.
