PURPOSE: A split air conditioner and method for controlling operation of split air conditioner is provided to select the discharge area for the processed air. CONSTITUTION: A split air conditioner comprises an outdoor unit, and an indoor unit for receiving compressed refrigerant from the outdoor unit and supplying heat exchanged air into the indoor area. The indoor unit includes a casing(1) having a plurality of air outlet ports(19,20); a plurality of blower fans arranged to be adjacent to each air outlet port in the casing, and which blow air to the air outlet ports at a plurality of rotating speed levels; a mode selection unit for selecting one of operation modes caused by the operation of one of blower fans; and a control unit for controlling whether to drive the blower fans in accordance with the result of selection of the mode selection unit, and controlling the blower fan to be operates at a level from among the rotating speed levels.
