PURPOSE: A selective pointer forwarding method for managing a location of a mobile station in a mobile communication system is provided to reduce the number of database accesses and a signal transmission load generated in a system by reducing a location registration expense and a call transmission cost generated for managing a location that is necessarily performed in a mobile communication system. CONSTITUTION: When a mobile station moves into a different location registration area, a controller of the mobile station selects a minimum expectation expense location registration point(200). The controller of the mobile station transmits a registration request message and an ID of the location registration point to a visitor location register(VLR), so as to be registered for the new location registration area(202). Then, the VLR registers a new location of the mobile station in the location registration point received from the mobile station(204).
