A PLURALITY OF FILE SYSTEMS USING WEIGHTED ALLOCATION TO ALLOCATE SPACE ON ONE OR MORE STORAGE DEVICES

PURPOSE: A method and a system for managing assignment of space on a storage device and a program storage medium are provided to enable plural filing systems to assign the spaces of one or plural storage devices by using weighted assignment in a general method of assignment of spaces for storage devices. CONSTITUTION: In proportion to a weight related to the storage device, the space is assigned on the storage device. The space is assigned by plural filing systems. Specifically, the space can be assigned on an arbitrary storage device by one or plural filing systems. In order to more effectively utilize the storage device adaptively to the change in the system, the weight can be dynamically controlled at any time. Since it is possible for the plural filing systems to assign the space on one or plural storage devices, the change in the weight is propagated to various filing systems having possibility to use the information.
