An extract from Thermopsis alterniflora having hypolipidemic activity and pharmaceutical compositions thereof

PURPOSE: A thermopsis alterniflora extract exhibiting an activity for lowering a lipid concentration in blood, myocardium, liver or blood vessel and containing flavonoid as an effective component is provided. The pharmaceutical composition containing the extract is effective for treatment and prevention of disease caused by lipid accumulation or lipid metabolism disorder containing lipidemia and arteriosclerosis. CONSTITUTION: The extract contains one or more flavonoid compounds selected from 15 to 30% by weight of luteolin, 15 to 30% by weight of chrysoeriol, 15 to 40% by weight of formononetin, 0 to 20% by weight of cynarozide, 1 to 10% by weight of apigenin and 0 to 10% by weight of thermopsosid and has an effect on lowering a lipid content. The lipid is cholesterol, triglyceride, nonesterified fatty acids, phospholipid or lipoprotein.
