PURPOSE: A method for controlling surface level of molten steel is provided to remarkably improve overshoot of molten steel by controlling a stopper using a model reference applied controller, and effectively correspond to change of strip casting system by setting a standard value using measured surface levels of molten steel. CONSTITUTION: The method for controlling surface level of molten steel using model reference in strip casting process comprises the steps of presetting a target surface level of molten steel flown into a molten steel pool, a standard value starting calculation of a model reference, a calculation expression of the model reference, and a sampling time; measuring a surface level of molten steel flown into the molten steel pool; calculating model reference values by the calculation expression when the measured surface level of molten steel reaches the standard value starting calculation of the model reference; outputting surface level control values of molten steel by deducting the measured surface level of molten steel from the calculated model reference values so as to calculate an error; and controlling the surface level of molten steel by controlling a molten steel amount flown into the molten steel pool using the surface level control values of molten steel.
