PURPOSE: A computer peripheral equipment with low power consumption and a method for saving the power are provided to reduce power consumption by operating peripheral equipment with a computer. CONSTITUTION: It is checked whether the peripheral equipment has a power save mode(22). It is determined if computer power is turned on(24). It is determined if a predetermined time period has passed since a function of the peripheral equipment was not performed(26). If the predetermined time period has passed or the computer power is not turned on, the peripheral equipment enters the power save mode(30). In the power save mode, the peripheral equipment consumes lower power than it performs its own function.
