PURPOSE: A method for evaluating measurement error in coordinate measuring machine and gauge for coordinate measuring are provided to simultaneously obtain coordinate data for evaluating a straightness of mechanical axes, a perpendicularity among mechanical axes, and a measurement precision between two points. CONSTITUTION: A method for evaluating measurement error in coordinate measuring machine and gauge for coordinate measuring include the steps of mounting a 3D measurement device(2) on a measurement table(3), measuring center coordinates of each of a plurality of spheres(11) with respect to two device axes by the 3D measurement device, mounting the 3D measurement device on the measurement table again by rotating a 3D measurement gauge(1) by 180 degrees with respect to a reference axis, and measuring the center coordinates of the spheres with respect to the two device axes by the 3D measurement device. In the first step, a 3D measurement gauge is positioned on an imaginary reference plane and has the spheres with centers disposed in a line on at least a straight line inclined with respect to a reference shaft extending an imaginary reference plane, the reference axis is in parallel to one mechanical axis among three mechanical axes of the 3D measurement device, and the imaginary reference plane is in parallel to any one of the other two mechanical axes.
