PURPOSE: A traffic information display system and method is provided to acquire traffic information with moving pictures and characters by using cameras, to synthesize and compress the acquisited traffic information, to transmit the information to an advertisement center and to display the traffic information among the advertisements. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of a character and moving picture synthesis server receiving moving pictures and characters of traffic information from cameras and loop sensors(102), the synthesis server storing the moving pictures and characters at a buffer by the kind of the traffic information(103), the synthesis server checking a time designated by a time(104), the synthesis server synthesizing the moving pictures and the characters periodically(105), the synthesis server converting the synthesized information into NTSC signals for allowing a traffic control center to monitor the traffic state(106), an encoding server compressing the synthesized traffic information and transmitting the compressed information to an outdoor sign display control center(107), the outdoor sign display control center decompressing the transmitted information and converting it into NTSC signals(108, 109), the outdoor sign display control center performing a time control, a synchronization or a reservation scheduling for displaying the traffic information among the advertisements(110), the outdoor sign display control center selecting an advertisement or traffic information according to the time control schedule(111), the outdoor sign display control center confirming the display schedule(113) and the outdoor sign display control center displaying the traffic information at a desired time(114).
