PURPOSE: A method for selecting optimum modal transformation of relay algorithm with high frequency and a fault detecting method of the same are provided to detect a fault from local information regardless of a protection area by using a non-unit protection line composed of a tuner and a wave trap of an optimum frequency. CONSTITUTION: A first process(S10) inputs line data. A second process(S12) establishes a line constant about a frequency-dependent model. A third process(S14) induces a fault by using an EMTP(Electro Magnetic Transients Program). A fourth process(S16) extracts fault data through a trap and a tuner which have a different frequency band with each other, and transforms the extracted fault data into each modal component. A fifth process(S18) performs a Fourier transform about each modal component to analyze a frequency spectrum distribution. A sixth process selects a modal transformation through the spectrum analysis.
