PURPOSE: A flux pump and a superconducting electromagnet are provided to produce apparatuses advantageously using HTc superconductor material, while allowing the base plate of the switch arrangement to be kept at a higher temperature but below the temperature of the superconductor material. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a superconductor flux pump including a transformer having, on a secondary side thereof, at least one superconducting coil, and at least one controllable switch(15,16), wherein the pump is intended for feeding current into a superconducting coil of an electromagnet. At least one superconducting coil on the secondary side of the transformer includes an HTc superconductor material, and at least one controllable switch has a switch gap formed in a strip. At least one switch at least in part includes an HTc superconductor material, and a controllable heater(48) is arranged adjacent to and in thermally conductive contact with the switch gap.
