PURPOSE: A bi-directional communication system using a unidirectional optical transmission router and a communication method therefor are provided to stably and economically offer communication environment by corresponding to an asymmetric and symmetric bi-directional traffic or unidirectional traffic, processing data, unifying a transmission equipment and a router, and unifying the layers from 1 layer to 3 layer in OSI( Open Systems Interconnection) 7 layers. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of unidirectional optical transmission routers(200a-200e) connect to external general devices(10,30), and provide a bi-directional connection path from the external general devices(10,30). A control management unit(15) connects to a plurality of unidirectional optical transmission routers(200a-200e), and sets the bi-directional connection path using the unidirectional optical transmission routers(200a-200e). The control management unit(15) monitors a fault state of each node and link, and switches a predetermined bi-directional connection path when detecting the fault so that resources are recovered.
