PURPOSE: A method for improving quality of continuous cast slab of austenitic stainless steel is provided to reduce surface defects of the continuous cast slab of austenitic stainless steel during hot rolling by intensively cooling the heat concentration part of copper plate and maximizing cooling power at the short side part of a mold. CONSTITUTION: The method for manufacturing continuous cast slab of austenitic stainless steel is characterized in that a mold is fabricated in such a way that heat transfer coefficient is maintained from the minimum 0.035 W/mm¬2K to the maximum 0.042 W/mm¬2K to prevent cracking and breakout under the casting conditions of 1200 to 1300 mm of cast slab width, cast slab thickness of 200 to 250 mm and casting speed of 0.8 to 1.4 m/min, wherein size of slit is increased proportionally as it goes from the center to the corner part of the mold to concentrate cooling, heat transfer coefficient at the center of the long side part of the mold is maintained to 0.035 W/mm¬2K while heat transfer coefficient at the corner part of the mold is maintained to 0.042 W/mm¬2K, and pitch at the center of the long side part of copper plate mold is maintained to 4 times of width of the slit while pitch at the corner part of the copper plate mold is maintained to 3 times of the width of the slit to adjust the above conditions by varying pitch of basic slit of the copper plate mold.
