A process for the temperature compensation of the measured values of a sensor for the light permeability of washing or rinsing liquid in an automatic washing machine or dishwasher, comprises registering the temperature coefficient of the sensor in the presence of the maximum possible work temperature and in the presence of the minimum possible work temperature. The course of the temperature coefficients across the whole temperature range is established from these extreme values. Each time the light permeability is measured, the actual temperature at the measuring point is also measured and a correction value for light permeability is calculated. The value for the permeability is corrected by the correction value.
