The security monitoring device has two channels set-up with respect to the hardware or software diversity. Relays are assigned to respective outputs of the channels which are switched by switch sets arranged in series. The series circuit of the switch sets forms the relevant output of the security monitoring device. Appropriate microprocessor with appropriate software and memory are connected to each channel. Programming inputs are fed to the security monitoring device to inform and evaluate the safe state and monitor the access opening (4) of a machine (1). Appropriate drive and control (7) are used for the selective and lockable access opening which leads to the work area (3) of the machine.
