A sports mode is first determined, from which a limiting sports factor is derived. Hydraulic system preconditioning proportion and reduction of engine dynamic is adjusted in accordance with the sports factor, such that preconditioning proportion is minimal with a lower sports factor and engine torque reduction proportion is maximal. With high sports factor, preconditioning proportion is maximal and engine dynamic reduction proportion is minimal. During transition from low sports factor to high sports factor, preconditioning proportion continuously increases and engine dynamic reduction proportion continuously decreases.
