A first part(1) with a visible decorative surface(5) is located in a recess of a second part(2) with a different visible decorative surface(6). The two surfaces for a butt joint(7) against each other. An adhesive layer(8) between the recessed joint face(19) and the rear face of the first part bonds both parts together. At the butt joint the decorative surfaces are either flush with each other or have a slight height difference. In the latter tolerance variation in the first part is compensated by adhesive thickness between the two parts. Independent claims are made for: a) a process for manufacturing the ornamental product in which: i) the first decorative surface(5) is placed on the surface(4) of a joining tool(3) corresponding to the contours of the composite product(1,2); ii) adhesive(8) is applied to the rear face(20) of the first decorative surface and/or the recessed front face(19) of the second decorative surface; iii) the latter is placed onto surface of the joining tool and forms a butt joint(7) with the first decorative surface; iv) force is applied to press the two parts together, the adhesive thickness compensating for tolerance errors, and the adhesive is cured: b) a similar process to the first except that the two parts are located on the joining tool and adhesive is injected through an opening near the joining area before pressure is applied.
