Detecting damage to DNA (I), comprises in vitro treatment of (I) with DNA-repair proteins (II) so that specific interaction between damaged DNA and at least one (II) occurs, and determining the occurrence of the interactions as a measure of DNA damage. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a reagent kit for the process comprising (II); and (2) a system for detecting DNA-(II) interaction.
