The device for the generation of pressure pulses has a power supply (10) connected to a coil (2) as a load. A membrane (3) is provided, whereby with the passage of current through the coil a magnetic field builds up and creates eddy currents in the membrane which experiences a repulsion force from the coil which is excited as a mechanical pressure pulse in a material (4) lying on the membrane.
