The operating device is formed as a compound part and comprises a guide tube (2) made from an injection moulded or cast material whereby the selector fork which is made of metal and the follower (4) are fixed on the guide tube. The guide tube can be made as a plastics moulded part or aluminium cast part and the follower can be integrated into a sleeve face (5) to form a one-piece component.
