The method involves igniting a non-equilibrium plasma using pulsed high frequency discharge in order to perform plasma ignition of fuels in the internal combustion engine. Preferably, the high frequency discharge is a microwave discharge in the frequency range of 0.9 and 100 GHz. An Independent claim is also included for a plasma ignition device.
