The method involves passing air from a compressed air source via an air dryer (4) into the air spring (6a-6d) until the vehicle body reaches a desired level near the air spring. The filling process is interrupted whenever defined conditions are reached, e.g. a critical moisture level in the air dryer. Some of the air already dried in the filling process is passed to a compressed air reservoir and the filling process is continued.
