The method involves operating an actuator drive whereby the actuator drive has a direct current motor, preferably with a reduction gear, and is driven by a controller. Power to the motor is at least temporarily interrupted if a threshold winding temperature is exceeded. The winding temperature of the direct current motor is computed from parameters of the direct current motor, e.g. by taking into account the drive voltage and motor resistance. Independent claims are also included for the following: a use of the method for adjusting a choke flap or induction pipe in the air induction system of an internal combustion engine or for adjusting an exhaust gas feedback valve in an exhaust system.
