Length detection and/or checking method for railway train calculates train length from detected positions of first and last vehicles in train

The method detects the position in the travel direction of both the first vehicle (12) and the last vehicle (19) in the railway train (11), the obtained position values used for calculation of the length of the railway train, e.g. for comparison with a stored reference length for initiating a warning when the compared lengths differ. The position values can be provided via at least 2 sensor systems, e.g. a GPS sensor system and an inertial sensor system. An Independent claim for a device for detection and/or checking of the length of a railway train is also included.
